Evenings of Stories and Music
These evenings of storytelling and music present readings from Partisan Song interspersed with performances of songs that inspired resistance during the Holocaust, including music from the Yiddish songbook that Moshe Gildenman carried throughout the war, reconstructions of songs he composed in the ghetto and in the forest, and beloved anthems such as “The Partisan Song.” The engaging programs offer profound tributes to the heroic efforts of Gildenman and other Jewish partisans to fight back against the Nazis while also preserving Jewish culture.
Musical Selections
Dr. Grymes will happily work with local musicians and music educators to identify appropriate repertoire. He is especially eager to provide suitable arrangements in the original Yiddish (one of Gildenman’s songs is in Russian) or in English translation of the songs from the “Partisan Song: Stories and Music of Holocaust Resistance” he led at the Center for Jewish History on March 9, 2026 (see the above video). The arrangements can be for:
- A cappella choir
- Choir and piano
- Choir and guitar
- Unaccompanied voice
- Voice and piano
- Voice and guitar
- Any other combination of voice(s) and instruments
